Blumhouse‘s Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is officially coming back with more its own holiday haunts as Universal Pictures has officially announced the release date for the highly-anticipated sequel film.
According to Deadline, the sequel is set to release in theatres on December 5, 2025.
Emma Tammi has also been confirmed to return as director.
Given that Tammi is set to direct Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, it’s very likely that the upcoming film will also see the return of Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard respectively.
In the first film, Hutcherson’s Mike Schmidt discovered the dark secret that kept Freddy Fazbear and friends under Springtrap’s control, leading to Lillard’s William Afton being mutilated and turning into the iconic villain.
Previously, it was reported that Lillard had reportedly signed on for three films in the series, which both include the first 2023 film and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.
This appears to have been confirmed from Lillard himself, who posted a photo of himself on Instagram in the Springtrap costume with the model of Scooby-Doo, citing the villain’s main catchphrase.
Though the film’s plot remains under wraps, fans likely know that the film might move to a new Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza location given how Mangle, an animatronic from the second game, was being constructed ahead of shooting.
However, the original film pulled on several different elements throughout the games, including the 2014 game and Five Nights at Freddy’s 3, to create its own story.
As such, it’s likely that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 may see Mike Schmidt and company confront Afton, turned Springtrap, in new circumstances.
