Thomas Kingston’s heartbreaking final hours before he was found dead at £3m mansion

The tragic passing of Thomas Kingston at the young age of 45 has deeply impacted the royal family. As a financier and former hostage negotiator, as well as the late husband of Lady Gabriella Windsor, daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Mr. Kingston held a significant place within royal circles.

His funeral service today at the Chapel Royal, St James’s, was led by Prince William, who was reported to have been profoundly affected by the news of Mr. Kingston’s untimely demise. The private family service, attended by around 140 close relatives and friends, including The Prince of Wales, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, The Duke of Kent, and Princess Alexandra, paid respects to the well-liked figure.

The solemn occasion began with Mr. Kingston’s coffin being brought from the chapel of Kensington Palace, accompanied by his close family members. The reception following the service was held at St James’s Palace, providing an opportunity for mourners to gather and commemorate the life of the esteemed individual who tragically passed away last month at his Gloucestershire home under distressing circumstances.

The recent tragic incident involving Thomas Kingston, the son of Sir Michael and Lady Kingston, has garnered attention from the royal family. While King Charles and Queen Camilla, who is currently receiving cancer treatment, were unable to attend the service due to the King’s health condition, they had previously expressed their heartfelt condolences to the family.

According to palace sources, a larger memorial service for Mr. Kingston is likely to be organized in the future. The inquest into Thomas’ death, held earlier this month at the Gloucestershire Coroner’s Court, shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Senior coroner Katy Skerrett revealed that on February 25, 2024, Mr. Kingston was visiting his parents’ home in the Cotswolds. After having lunch with his parents, his father went out to walk the dogs. Upon his return, Mr. Kingston was not in the house, and after approximately 30 minutes, his mother went to look for him.

Tragically, Mr. Kingston’s father found him deceased with a catastrophic head injury in a locked outbuilding, with a gun present at the scene. Emergency services were called, and the police have ruled out any suspicion of foul play, considering the death as non-suspicious.

The coroner adjourned the rest of the inquest proceedings to a later date, allowing for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

The tragic passing of Thomas Henry Robin Kingston, the financier who married Lady Gabriella Kingston in May 2019, has been met with an outpouring of tributes from close family members who described him as an “exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him.” Following his death, a post-mortem examination was conducted by Dr. Jones, a consultant histopathologist, who provided a provisional cause of death as “1a traumatic wound to head.” After confirming the identification, initial cause of death, and brief circumstances surrounding Mr. Kingston’s demise, the coroner, Ms. Skerrett, formally opened the inquest. However, she adjourned it to a future date to be determined, concluding the opening proceedings into the investigation of Thomas Henry Robin Kingston’s death.

The coroner has officially identified the deceased as Thomas Henry Robin Kingston, aged 45, from London, in accordance with the Coroner’s Rules 2013. Lady Gabriella and the Kingston family have released a statement expressing their profound sorrow over Thomas’s passing, describing him as an exceptional individual who brought joy to those around him. His death has deeply impacted the family, who have requested privacy during this mourning period. Buckingham Palace has conveyed condolences from the King and Queen, who join Prince and Princess Michael of Kent in grieving the loss of a beloved family member. Their Majesties have extended heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Lady Gabriella and the Kingston family during this difficult time.
