Little-known I’m A Celeb rule that means stars could leave show without being paid I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! returns this evening (November 17) for a new series

Everyone’s favourite reality show is almost here with a new season of terrifying trials and ant eating contests.

This year, Coleen Rooney is reportedly set to become the joint-highest paid contestant after Nigel Farage was said to have made it out of the I’m A Celebrity jungle with £1.5 million in last year’s competition.

N-Dubz singer Tulisa Contostavlos, Loose Women’s Jane Moore and McFly star Danny Jones are amongst some of the familiar faces we’re expecting to see in the first episode of the 2024 series.

“I have been in the public eye for over 20 years now and people take what they want from it,” Rooney said ahead of the show.

“I do think people will get a better idea of what kind of person I am.”

While I’m A Celeb fans will wait to see how the mum-of-four gets on, Rooney might not receive her money because of a little-know rule.

According to the Metro, celebrities can’t just jump in and out of the jungle and still get paid.

The outlet reports that contestants must stay in the competition for at least 72 hours to receive their earnings.

Notably, not all them are getting paid the same amount, as they generally receive anything between £30,000 and £900,000, according to reports.

Unless you’re Rooney or Farage, that is.

You just know when the I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! line-up drops that Christmas is just around the corner.

Mentally, you don’t really want to think about Xmas shopping, but the good news is that the creepy crawlies will be under the tree in the living room before you know it.

Last Friday (1 November), The Sun were right on cue to announce the leaked line-up for this year’s rendition of the reality show.

ITV is yet to confirm the group of contestants and it’s important to remember that they are likely to add a few more to that list of 12.

As always, we expect Ant and Dec to return to our screens to present the gruelling Bushtucker Trials.

But now, let’s get down to business.

When it comes to the king, or queen, of the jungle, they are usually awarded with a nice ceremony and a fancy throne to sit on.

However, the I’m A Celeb winner doesn’t actually receive any prize money, and that’s because they are already getting an appearance fee.

While ITV don’t tell us how much each celebrity earns, The Sun has reported that Coleen Rooney is rumoured to be the joint-highest paid contestant in the history of the show.

She is allegedly set to earn a whopping £1.5 million to appear and that’s apparently the same amount Nigel Farage was on last year.

In second place comes Noel Edmonds, who reportedly earned £600,000 in 2018, followed by Caitlyn Jenner as she was said to have taken home an eye-watering £500,000 in 2019.

2018’s king of the jungle Harry Redknapp was also reportedly paid the same figure.

As for the rest of the contestants, they generally receive anything between £30,000 and £900,000, according to reports.

Unless you’re Rooney or Farage, that is (allegedly).

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas when I’m A Celebrity returns to our screens.

The ITV survival show will kick off this evening (17 November) and the brave group of celebrities have been announced.

Coleen Rooney, N-Dubz singer Tulisa, Love Island star Maura Higgins and boxing promoter Barry McGuigan are just some of the names who are set to take on the dreaded Bushtucker Trials.

Ant and Dec are, of course, back in action to present the 24th series of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! for the next three weeks.

With Sam Thompson being crowned King of the Jungle in 2023, it was actually Nigel Farage who became the highest paid contestant in the show’s history.

However, Coleen Rooney is set to equal what the politician was on.

Rooney is reportedly set to earn a whopping £1.5 million to appear and that’s apparently the same amount Nigel Farage was on last year, finishing in third.

Noel Edmonds

The former Deal or No Deal host reportedly earned £600,000 and was the first contestant voted off in 2018. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Boy George, Harry Redknapp, Caitlyn Jenner

The three very different celebs, Boy George, Harry Redknapp, and Caitlyn Jenner, reportedly all walked out of the jungle with £500,000.

Redknapp was 2018’s King of the Jungle, while George finished in eighth place back in 2022.

Jenner did a little better, coming in at sixth place.

Katie Price

OG I’m A Celeb fans will remember Price’s stint in 2003, finishing in third place.

But for her second appearance in 2009, she was reportedly paid and eye watering £450,000, though she ended up leaving nine days into the jungle.

Georgia Toffolo

The Made in Chelsea star was no stranger to reality TV when she joined the jungle in 2017, reportedly taking home £13,000.

Although she didn’t earn a massive amount like the others, she went and joined up with I’m A Celebrity…South Africa six years later.

Malique Thompson-Dwyer

In 2018, the Hollyoaks actor was the second person to be voted off after reportedly earning £15,000.

Jordan Banjo and Myles Stephenson

The pair who both rose to fame on Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor, respectively, were said to have commanded £25,000 for their sites on 2016 and 2019.

Banjo was the fourth person to leave, while Myles finished in a respectable sixth place.

Emily Atack

Inbetweeners star Emily Atack went on the show in 2018 and reportedly got £40,000, finishing in second place.

Coleen Rooney sinking into a swamp, Barry McGuigan failing to open padlocks and GK Barry crying over cockroaches – it’s that time of year when we all watch celebs suffer in the jungle.

But the famous faces of the line-up for this year’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! weren’t the only major names who appeared on ITV last night (17 November).

For those who actually stick around during the ad break instead of nipping to the loo or making another cuppa, they’ll have spotted a certain comedian pop up on the screen.

The one and only, Peter Kay. To the joy of many, he made a huge surprise announcement in an advert during the episode.

Cast your mind back a couple of years ago when the Bolton legend announced a huge comeback comedy tour and everyone and their dad was trying to get tickets.

Well, if you can bear to know how long we’ve been suffering from FOMO, Kay’s now been on his record-breaking run of gigs around the UK since December 2022.

But it looks like you might have another chance at going (or going again, lucky b**tards).

During the funny new advert, Kay gets spotted by some fans as he carries a golden toilet to his mum’s iconic bungalow.

“Is that Peter Kay’s mum’s bungalow?” the passersby ask, pointing out the Freddie Mercury mural on the garage door.

As many of us would, the fan then asks if Kay is going to do more tour dates to which he says: “Hey, I’ve got no choice! She wants it all now.”

Yep, in typical fashion, the legend has announced he’s adding more dates to The Better Late than Never tour.

He said in a statement: “It’s been wonderful doing what I love most, stand-up comedy. Laughter is more important than ever in these challenging times and with the cost of living still at an all-time high, ticket prices for the new dates will start from £35.”

Tickets for the 21 new dates go on sale on 23 November at 10am with a Virgin Media pre-sale from 10am on 21 November.

The mother-of-four took to Instagram to confirm that she would be a contestant on the ITV reality show

Coleen Rooney has lifted the lid on her involvement in I’m A Celebrity, while addressing potential trial exemption rumours.

Best known for being married to Wayne Rooney and her involvement in the infamous ‘Wagatha Christie’ case, the mother-of-four has taken to Instagram to speak to her one million followers about her involvement in the reality TV show for the first time.

Confirming her involvement as one of the contestants in the jungle this year, alongside the likes of GK Barry, Maura Higgins and more, she also addressed rumours about her health.

The 38-year-old posted the video on her account last night (11 November), despite some contestants already touching down in Australia.

She spoke about how she had ‘prepared’ to leave her kids, announcing for the first time: “I can confirm, I am going in the jungle”, further adding, “do you know what, they’ve asked me for so many years now and I’ve just always said ‘no’ or put it off.”

In the video, Coleen revealed two whiteboards behind her that were covered in writing, outlining the children’s timetables and information for those taking care of them in her absence.

But as she is said to become the highest ever I’m a Celeb earner, Coleen will finally be appearing on the ITV programme, explaining that the young ages of her four sons meant that she turned the show down in the past.

Highlighting that she'll miss her children, Coleen finally confirmed that she will be on I'm a Celeb (Instagram/coleen_rooney)

However, she also addressed reports that recently suggested that her reactive arthritis, which was said to be a consequence of her legal battle with Rebekah Vardy, would stop her from taking part in some trials on I’m a Celebrity.

Coleen explained: “I’m looking forward to doing the trials. There’s been a lot of news saying that I can’t do trials because of certain illnesses and that, but I can confirm I can do every trial.

“So I am not excluded from any – that was just a load of rubbish, and I am, yeah, I’m looking forward to it,” she admitted.

Alongside the announcement, Coleen revealed that she also left some soft toys and letters for her children so they would ‘know that I am constantly thinking of them.’

“Don’t get me wrong. I am really anxious about leaving the kids. That’s my biggest thing, and [sic] for weeks and months that’s been on my mind, but I’ve come to terms with it,” Coleen further explained.

She also said: “I’ve planned, I’ve prepped. I’ve got an army of people, family, friends, school friends all helping out with the kids, so they are going to be fine, and they are probably going to have a great time when I’m away.”
